Nevada Facts & Statistics • While Nevada encompasses more than 110,000 square miles, approximately 85 percent of its residents live in one of two major metropolitan areas. Thus, STEM-related programs outside the urban areas of the state range from sparse to non-existent. • Within Nevada’s elementary schools, an average of only 15 percent of classroom time is dedicated to science instruction. • Mathematics, on the other hand, is a focus item due to the adoption of the Nevada Academic Content Standards for Mathematics.
